How to Assemble and Adjust a Leister TRIAC Drive Semiautomatic Welder

The Leister TRIAC Drive is a semiautomatic seam welder that is ideal for tight, hard-to-reach places and vertical surfaces, such as parapet walls. To produce the strongest, most consistent welds, the TRIAC Drive needs to be properly configured.

Prior to every use, make sure to assemble the pressure roller, nozzle, handle and supporting carrier as required.

Assemble the accessories

  1. Push handle (15) onto drive unit (5) up to the required setting. Lock it in place by turning the grip clockwise.
  2. Triac-drive-hot-air-blower-alignmentAttach the double supporting carrier (8) or single supporting carrier (9) using the four fixing screws (10).
  3. Attach the pressure roller (11) using the provided fixing screw (12).
  4. Push your hot air blower—either the TRIAC AT or TRIAC ST—into the holder (6). The hot air blower must be pushed in so that the distance between the end of the protective tube and holder (6) is 10 mm. Once in position, tighten the fixing screw (14) to secure it in place.
  5. Push on the overlap welding nozzle (16) and secure it in place using the fixing screw (17).

Adjust the supporting carrier to the material thickness

  1. Loosen the four fixing screws for supporting carrier (10).
  2. triac-drive_support_carrierFeed in a small scrap of the material to be welded between the drive unit (5) and supporting carrier (8 or 9).
  3. Move the supporting carrier (8 or 9) up flush with the material scrap to be welded.
  4. Tighten the four fixing screws for supporting carrier (10).
  5. Remove the material to be welded.
  6. Check the previous setting (see below).

Adjust the overlap welding nozzle

  1. Line up the overlap welding nozzle (16) parallel with the pressure roller (11).
  2. Tighten the overlap-welding nozzle fixing screw (17).
  3. Loosen the holder adjusting screws (7).
  4. Line up the overlap welding nozzle (16) parallel to the material to be welded by moving the hot air blower (13).triac-drive-alignment In order to avoid welding problems, the supporting carrier (8 or 9) and the pressure roller must be positioned together with the material being welded.
  5. Tighten the holder adjusting screws (7).
