How to Change a Leister BITUMAT B2 Heating Element

Over time and with regular use, the Leister BITUMAT B2's heating element can wear down and potentially break. When this occurs, the heat output will be limited, which will be evident by weak seam welds. 

Following are the simple steps to replace your BITUMAT B2's heating element. Please make sure the welder's nozzle is cool before starting. 

1. Remove the four mounting screws that hold the nozzle to the hot-air blower.
2. Pull the nozzle away from the handle.
3. Slide off the mica tube that covers the heating element.
4. Unscrew the grounding ring from the handle and slide it up and over the heating element.
5. Pull the element away from the blower by rocking it back and forth.
6. Install a new element by aligning the three pins with the three socks on the welder. The element only attaches one way.
7. Reinstall the grounding ring.
8. Slide the mica tube back into place.
9. Slide the nozzle over the mica tube, and reinstall the four mounting screws.
